根 ー roots

「根」のことを考えると、
建築士だった父が言っていた言葉を思い出します。

高いマンションを指差して、

「あの高い建物が、強風でも倒れないのはなぜかわかるか？
地上に見えている部分以上に、地面の下には大きな基礎がある。
基礎がしっかりしていなければ、倒れる。
人も同じだよ。」

この作品の「根」は、
下半分を金色の土の中に埋めました。

根っこは、見えない。
でも、見えないところで支えている。

経験だったり、学びだったり、
大切にしてきたことだったり。

そんな一つひとつが、
自分という人間の「根」になっていくのかもしれません。

金色の土は、人生を豊かにしてくれるもの。

見えない基礎を大切にすること。
私も、忘れずにいたいと思います。

When I think about the word “Roots,”
I remember something my father, who was an architect, once told me.

Pointing to a tall building, he said,

“Do you know why a building like that can stand strong even in powerful winds?
It’s because of the strong foundation beneath the ground.
Without a solid foundation, it cannot stand.
People are the same.”

In this piece, the lower half of the character “根” (roots) is buried in golden soil.

Roots are invisible,
but they support everything above them.

Our experiences, what we learn,
and the things we have valued along the way—

perhaps each of these becomes part of our own roots.

The golden soil represents the things that enrich our lives.

What we build beneath the surface matters.
It’s something I want to remember in my own life, too.
